There are 3 tracks on this album where I had fellow musicians/singers collaborate with me and I wanted to make sure I highlighted all three as I’m proud of how they all turned out.
“Where Do The Children Go” is a song written by Philadelphia musician/songwriters Eric Bazilian and Robert Hyman for the Philly band “The Hooters” for their first national Columbia records release in 1985 (they released previous albums regionally). Fun facts: Eric also wrote the song “One Of Us” recorded by Joan Osborne which was nominated for 6 Grammy awards in 1995. Rob co-wrote the #1 single “Time After Time” with Cyndi Lauper so while you may not be familiar with the band, you most likely are aware of their songs.
The original version of this song was a duet collaboration with Patty Smyth (from the 80’s band “Scandal”). The song is fairly well known to “Hooters” fans and in the Philadelphia tri-state area but not so much once you get out to the rest of the country (here in Minnesota, those who know of the band know “All You Zombies” or “And We Danced” as opposed to this song)
The song lyrics have a serious tone to it and can be interpreted multiple ways depending on the listener. It’s a beautiful tune with very specific harmonies which my good friend Kim Wolff absolutely nailed in the recording with me. Kim had never heard this tune before and took the time to really learn the parts and create some wonderful ad-libs at the end of the tune (I’ve already had a few individuals from the Philadelphia area compliment her interpretation of it since the album release earlier this month).
