When I made the decision last year to start spending more time in the studio, I loved the opportunity to work on projects in multiple genres and themes. “Non Noto” was the first experiment where it was music from artists that I always enjoyed but they weren’t songs that I could perform live at a bar or a club as they aren't popular. I was happy that the album exceeded my expectations in streaming and downloads (I had a low-bar, but still . . .).
I knew the next project I wanted to work on would be more Christian-based. Those who know me are aware that I have sang in Catholic Church choirs since the early 2000's (while playing rock and roll in live bands). It's an interesting mix, however I never really took that experience beyond the 4-walls of a church. This was an opportunity to do that.
I became aware of the more “contemporary” Christian music as I became more and more engaged in music ministry. At one point, I even sang a Hispanic Rap piece at choir concert and even at a couple Catholic masses. Point is: Christian music can be in ANY genre (chant, traditional, pop, rock, rap, hip-hop, metal) . . the message is the same.
This album is a small piece of the type of Christian Contemporary music that is out there. There are a couple tracks on this album that I've actually sang at a church service. There are also a couple that I don't think would ever be performed there — but I enjoyed working on all 7 of these tracks.
The timing of this release is relevant: I wanted to have this out on Easter weekend because of the type of music and message it portrays. The intent is not to force messages on everyone, but it is my background and beliefs starting from when I grew up in an Italian-American Catholic family in West Philadelphia through today living in the southern Twin Cities suburbs.
If you are Christian I think you will really enjoy my take on these songs; if you are not – give it a listen and see what you think! If it's not “your cup of tea”, I will have other projects coming out this year in other genres.
